Book Summary: The Invisible man

"The Invisible Man" is a science fiction novel written by H.G. Wells, first published in 1897. The story is about a scientist named Griffin who discovers the secret of invisibility, but finds that his newfound ability has turned him into a social outcast and criminal.

The novel begins with the narrator, a stranger named Griffin, arriving in the small town of Iping, England. Griffin is a scientist who has discovered the secret of invisibility and has made himself invisible through a series of complex chemical and physiological processes. However, he is unable to reverse the process, and he is forced to keep himself hidden from the world, wearing heavy clothing and dark goggles to conceal his identity.

Griffin initially tries to keep to himself, but his behavior and strange appearance soon attract attention from the townsfolk. He becomes increasingly isolated and paranoid, and he begins to feel that the world is against him. Eventually, he is driven to commit a series of crimes in order to survive.

The novel is divided into three parts. In the first part, the main character is introduced and the background of the story is set. The second part of the novel is focused on how the main character, Griffin, struggles to adapt to his invisibility and how he starts to feel like a social outcast. The third part of the novel is the climax, where Griffin's criminal behavior is exposed and he is finally chased by the police and the townspeople.

Throughout the novel, Wells explores themes of isolation, power, and the consequences of scientific advancement. The novel is also a commentary on the class system of Victorian England, as Griffin's invisibility allows him to move freely through society and to witness the inequalities of the time.

The book is also a psychological thriller, as Griffin's mental state deteriorates as a result of his invisibility, he becomes more and more paranoid, aggressive and violent. He starts to see himself as a superior being, above the laws of society and above the people around him. His behavior becomes unpredictable and dangerous, and he becomes a threat to the townspeople.
